More info: Disclosure. We are just back from ski holidays in Switzerland and we had a really good time in Engelberg. Titlis is the highest glacier excursion destination in central Switzerland. Just give me the short answer The best time to visit Switzerland really depends on what you want to do, see and experience. Although we have four distinct seasons, weather varies extremely and depends pretty much on the altitude. We have very low and very high elevations, mountain ranges, deep valleys and plateaus where winds can be strong; therefore we experience a multitude of micro-climates. We often experience unusual weather patterns: snowfall during late spring and early fall, a cold snap in June, even in summer; heat waves or frosty nights in July and August, thick fog below m to m 3. We have places with snow year-round - to name just a few: the Jungfraujoch in the Bernese Oberland , Mt. The rainiest areas are around Lucerne, St. Gallen and not for nothing are the meadows of the Canton Appenzell lush and Irish-like green.
Geography[ edit ] The south-east spur seen from the Grassen Titlis straddles the border between Obwalden and Bern. The main summit of Titlis sometimes distinguished by the name Gross Titlis and Klein Titlis are both located between the municipalities of Engelberg on the north and Gadmen on the south. Titlis itself is the highest point in Obwalden and in the valley of Engelberg. East of Titlis is the Grassen , where the borders between the cantons of Obwalden, Berne and Uri converge. The geographical center of Switzerland is situated about 15 kilometers west of the mountain.
We had discovered yesterday that Mount Titlis, the highest mountain in central Switzerland, was only about a 30 minute drive away from Lucerne. Mount Titlis, or Titlis as it is more commonly referred to, has snow all year round. It just sounded all too amazing to let it pass us by. We are not big skiers by any stretch of the imagination. There are plenty of activities for everyone up there as well.
