The main hormones concerned with growth are pituitary growth hormone , thyroid hormone, the sex hormones testosterone and estrogen, and the pituitary gonadotropic sex-gland-stimulating hormones. Pituitary growth hormone, a protein with molecular weight of 21, and of known amino-acid composition , is secreted by the pituitary gland throughout life. Exactly what its function is in the adult is not clear, but in the child it is necessary for growth; without it dwarfism results. During fetal life it seems not to be necessary, though normally present. It is not secreted at a constant rate all day but in small bursts of activity.
Human sex hormones stimulate the growth and maturation of Coccidioides immitis.
Sex hormones are responsible for driving sexual development puberty. The main reproductive hormones are oestrogen and testosterone. Oestrogen causes eggs to mature in ovaries once a girl hits puberty. These are then released at regular intervals during the menstrual cycle.
Because men and pregnant women show increased susceptibility to extrapulmonary dissemination of coccidioidomycosis, studies were conducted to determine the direct effect of human sex hormones and related compounds on the growth and maturation of Coccidioides immitis in vitro. Rates of spherule maturation and endospore release were accelerated, in a dose-dependent fashion, by concentrations of 17 beta-estradiol occurring in normal women, with the most striking effects seen at levels encountered in advanced pregnancy. A stimulatory effect of 17 beta-estradiol on the saprobic phase of fungal growth was also detected.
The interplay of hormones in the body is crucial in enabling physical intercourse. ONE of the things that I like to tell my patients is that the brain is the most powerful sex organ of all. Women — and their partners who come to the clinic with them — are always taken aback by this statement.
