Demi Moore's 'Striptease,' one of the strangest big-budget movies But the studio is downplaying Moore's nude scenes, marketing the movie first and foremost as a comedy and secondarily as unlike 'Showgirls,' last fall's despised stripper-fest from MGM. Early reviews have been mixed. Analysts hestitate to predict the film will succeed at the box office, partly because it was reshot to cut an attempted rape scene after testing poorly at a screening, and its release date was changed twice. Moore plays Erin Grant, who loses her daughter in a child custody battle to her sociopathic ex-husband. The cast includes Ving Rhames as Shad the Bouncer, Burt Reynolds as a congressman with a severe substance abuse problem, Moore's 7-year-old daughter Rumer as her daughter and Robert Patrick as the ex-husband.

Pin on Projects to Try
Castle Rock Entertainment produced Striptease. It was published in and was a bestseller. The screenplay itself was written by Andrew Bergman, who also directed. According to one critic, the novel's plot is "quite faithfully followed" by the screenplay, but in bringing the complicated story to the screen, "Bergman forgets to explain persuasively what a nice girl like Erin — smart, spunky and a former FBI employee — is doing in a dump called the Eager Beaver. He thought it was really, really true to the book, which I wanted to do! Later test screenings also turned up less than favorable reactions.
